Abstract: This thesis is a contribution for the scientific research of the Social Economy Sector in Portugal, involving more than fifty thousand entities with a substantial importance in the national output and job creation, directly or indirectly. This research analyzed the existence, or not, of a single comprehensive strategy in this Sector. Complementarily, it studies the relationship between these entities and its Stakeholders. The study adopted a qualitative approach, using a large number of case studies constructed through a batch of interviews with the persons responsible of a sub-set of entities representative of the entire Sector [Third Sector]. Moreover, the study also analyzed communication platforms and documents of these entities. This study concluded that there is not a single strategy pursued by all entities of this Sector. In fact we can divide these entities in two sub-set of organizations based on their management capacities. One of the sub-set is composed of entities with poor management, with limited efficiency and capacity to foresee future events, and another sub-set composed of entities pursuing modern management techniques, with a strategic vision that anticipates future developments.
