In the context of the opening of the Call Stimulus of Scientific Employment - Individual Support 2017 for the hiring of doctoral researchers, we hereby inform that those interested in applying to the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), with the Business Research Unit (BRU-IUL) as host institution must submit an application to the Center containing the following elements, in English, according to the indications expressed in the FCT’s Notice for Submission of Applications:


  • Research contract level to which the candidate is applying (Junior | Assistant | Principal | Coordinator)
  • Research plan, including a rigorous selection of the main activities to be developed, the expected results and the clear identification of a mission and scientific challenges, to be considered in the framework of one or more of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (2030 Agenda);
  • Synopsis of the scientific and curricular path highlighting the main activities and results obtained in the last 5 years;
  • Curriculum vitae; 
    • Motivation letter including up to two of the main contributions in the last 5 years and the expected future main contributions.


Applications must be sent until January 29th, 2018 by e-mail to with the subject Call Stimulus to Individual Scientific Employment 2017.


The selected candidates will be able to submit an application to FCT with BRU-IUL as host institution.

Encontro Ciência 2017

The Ciência 2017 event was held from 3rd to 5th July 2017 at the Lisbon Congress Center in Belém. The event had more than 4,000 registered participants with about 400 communications by researchers who presented the results of their scientific work, 700 posters of PhD students and dozens of projects demonstrations.


The event was organized with the intention to promote a broad debate on the main themes and challenges of the scientific work, bringing together researchers, politicians and members of the society in general.


The Ciência 2017 event was supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and was organized by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)  in collaboration with Ciência Viva - National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture and the Parliamentary Commission for Education and Science.


The BRU-IUL was represented by the two oral presentations of our researchers and two poster presentations of our final year PhD students.


The BRU-IUL researchers who presented their work through the oral presentations were:

  • Helena Isidro from the Financial and Management Accounting Group at BRU-IUL, with the presentation “Financial reporting around the world”
  • Daniela Langaro from the Marketing group at BRU-IUL with the presentation “The effects of Social Networking Sites on Brand Benevolence”.


The final year PhD students in Management with the specialization in Marketing, who have presented their research with the poster presentation, were:

  • Ricardo Bilro, with the poster presentation “Drivers of customer-brand engagement in a digital marketing era”
  • Helena Rodrigues, with the poster presentation “A Scoping Review: Exploring the World of Medical and Wellness Tourism”.
